May be wrongly assumed that addicts have no morals or willpower and could not stop taking drugs, simply choose to change their behavior. This represents approximately 193 billion dollars for illegal drugs, 193 million U.S. dollars for tobacco, and  235 billion dollars  for alcohol. As striking as these numbers are not completely describe the public health and safety destructive consequences of drug abuse and addiction, like family breakdown, loss employment, school or education failures, with lot of other issues like child abuse and domestic violence.

Drug abuse and addiction is the use of drugs for different purposes for which it has participated, or excessive consumption of drugs. Drug abuse and addition is a state of dependence on drugs by physically or psychologically. Physical dependence is characterized by tolerance (the need for more and more drugs to get the same effects ) and withdrawal symptoms that disappear when the new drugs will be taken. All kinds of different drugs may be abused, such as illicit drugs (like heroin or cannabis), doctor's prescription drugs ( like tranquilizers or analgesics ), and some other over the counter drugs that can be bought from the supermarket ( like syrups for cough or some other herbal remedies for different purpose).

All causes depends on the type of drug addiction, a people takes drugs, and there is different circumstances in which it was taken. Some medicines such as certain sleeping medicines or analgesics having physical addiction. They have a particular impact on the body, it may lead to tolerance and withdrawal symptoms. Others can lead to psychological drug abuse and addiction, if people have the desire that the drug causes. Some have speculated that some people may be prone to drug abuse and addiction than other peoples .The study is part of it , may even be genes that can predispose certain individuals to addiction. The social conditions are important for drug abuse. Peer pressure, anxiety ,stress and low self-esteem may lead people to abuse drugs. Choice of treatment depends on which drug is abused. The treatments are psychological therapy such as behavioral therapy and medications to help people to experience withdrawal symptoms.
